Soneto XLV / Pablo Neruda

SONETO XLV

venga a matar aún mi corazón perdido.

si volverás o si me dejarás muriendo.

Pablo Neruda - (Cien sonetos de amor, 1959)

SONNET XLV

Don't be far from me a single day, because how,
why, I don't know how to say it, the day is long,
and I will be awaiting you, as in the stations
when trains fell asleep somewhere else.

Don't go for one hour because
in that hour the drops of sleeplessness are joined
and maybe all the smoke that is searching for a home
will come to kill my lost heart.

Oh, may your silhouette not be broken in the sand,
oh, may your eyelids not fly in the absence:
do not go for one minute, beloved,

because in that minute you will have gone so far
that I will cross all the earth asking
if you will return or if you will leave me dying.

Pablo Neruda - (100 Love Sonnets, 1959)

SONNET XLV

Don’t be distant a single day, because how,
because—I can’t find the words—the day is long
and I’ll be waiting, like in a station when the train
has fallen asleep back down the line.

Don’t leave me for even an hour, because
in that hour drops of anxiety will gather
and the smoke that’s seeking a home
will find me, and kill my heavy heart.

Oh don’t let your silhouette expire on the sand,
oh don’t let your eyelids fly from me:
don’t leave me for even a minute, my love,

because in that minute you’ll have gone so far
that I’ll have to cross the earth asking
if you’re going to return, or leave me here dying.

Pablo Neruda - (100 Love Sonnets, 1959)

SONNET XLV

Don't go far off, not even for a day, because —
because — I don't know how to say it: a day is long
and I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station
when the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep.

Don't leave me, even for an hour, because
then the little drops of anguish will all run together,
the smoke that roams looking for a home will drift
into me, choking my lost heart.

Oh, may your silhouette never dissolve on the beach;
may your eyelids never flutter into the empty distance.
Don't leave me for a second, my dearest,

because in that moment you'll have gone so far
I'll wander mazily over all the earth, asking,
Will you come back? Will you leave me here, dying?

Pablo Neruda - (100 Love Sonnets, 1959)

SONETTO XLV

e ti starò attendendo come nelle stazioni

perché in quel minuto sarai andata sì lungi
ch’io attraverserò tutta la terra interrogando
se tornerai o mi lascerai morire.

Pablo Neruda - (Cento Sonetti D'amore, 1959)

SONE XLV

Ah, silinmeyen hayalindir kumlarda,
ah, uçuşmayan kirpiklerin aramıza giren boşlukta:
Aşkım benim, bir an olsun bile gitme,
