"Rain falls in drops. There are many of them, they can be seen, and the direction of their movement is particularly noticeable. All languages speak of rain falling. It is seen as paralel streaks, and the number of the falling drops emphasises the uniformity of their direction. There is no movement which makes more impression on man than that of falling; compared with it all others seem secondary and derived. From a very early age falling is what one fears most; it is the first thing in life which one is armed against. Children learn to beware of it and, after a certain age, it becomes ridiculous or dangerous. In contrast to man, rain is what should fall, and there is nothing which falls so often or in such multiplicity."

"La lluvia cae en forma de muchas gotas. Se las ve lo mismo que se ve su dirección. En todas las lenguas se habla de que cae. Se ve la lluvia en muchas rayas paralelas y por el número de las gotas que caen se acentúa la unidad de su dirección. No hay dirección que cause más impresión al hombre que la de caída; todas las demás tienen, comparadas con ella, algo derivado, secundario. La caída es lo que más se teme desde tiempos más remotos y contra lo que nos equipamos antes en la vida. Yağmur paralel çizgiler olarak görülür ve düşen damlaların sayısı yönlerinin bir örnekliğini vurgular. İnsanı düşüşten daha fazla etkileyen başka hiçbir hareket yoktur; düşmeyle karşılaştırıldığında diğer bütün hareketler önemsiz ve ikincil görünür.
